Background - why use images?
Today's students are growing up in a visual world, accustomed to receiving information visually, often developing a learning style to which images are integral. Further, there is pressure on educators to adopt technologies that utilise visual media.
The Focusing Images for Learning and Teaching: an Enriched Resource (FILTER) project aims to enable the use of images for learning and teaching in further and higher education through resources and examples contained in a Web-based project database.
The exemplars of image-based learning and teaching content cover a wide range of subjects and are presented in a variety of formats. Along with useful case studies and other resources these materials have been created by further and higher education research and teaching practitioners, supported by generic guidelines developed by the project. Together these provide templates and support for individuals in beginning to produce their own image-based materials.
The workshop content and activities are designed to share information and experiences of image use based on the resources in the FILTER database. Time will be divided into presentation, discussion and hands-on activities. We hope to include:
Learning, teaching and research practitioners in UK FE/HE who wish to create image-based resources and better understand the benefits and limitations of using images.
No further workshops are planned at this time. However, if you would like more information email filter-info@bristol.ac.uk. Workshop materials will be made available online ASAP.
